Xavier: A Friends-to-Lovers MMA Romance (A Cocky Cage Fighter Legacy Novel Book 1) by Lane Hart

A Bookworm Review by Ana

Xavier

MMA Romance

I give this book 5 stars!

When you know…You know…No matter what, follow your heart.

Have a look at the blurb:

Xavier Malone returned to Maryland for his ten-year high school reunion to get away from all the drama in Seattle.

He never thought he would spend the week second-guessing every decision he’s ever made or seriously consider trading in his suit and tie for a chance to get in the cage.

Most of all, he wasn’t supposed to fall for Cassidy, his childhood best friend.

As Xavier makes plans to pursue his lifelong dream, following in the footsteps of his father Jax, a legend in the fighting world, he convinces himself that he needs Cass in his corner more than he needs her in his bed.

But Cass has longed for Xavier to see her as more than a friend for years and is tired of waiting. Now that he’s back, she’s not going to waste her chance to finally tell him how she feels.

There’s only one thing that can stand in the way of Xavier and Cass’s happiness, and that’s Xavier’s unfinished business with his estranged wife.

#MyReview:

OMG. I was so happy to have another book from this lady, that I couldn’t stop smiling.
She has given me some hot as hell books and she was the one that introduced me to MMA books.
They are amazing, just saying.
Lane Hart is the bomb. He’s writing is not only lying hot as hell but also raw and unpredictable.
Just grab her books and see for yourself.
Xavier is her latest release and it’s the first book from the Cocky Cage Fighter Legacy.
But I want to tell you something first.
Despite the fact that this book is a standalone, I think k you should read The Cocky Cage Fighter series first to get a better insight into this series. You won’t regret it. Trust me.
This new book explores the lives of Xavier and Cassidy.
Xavier is the son of a legend. Being good that way, he has some expectations he needs to fulfill.
He just needs to get away from everything so what better place to stay than his hometown with his childhood best friend, to attend their high school reunion.
Cassidy was always a determined girl. She knew what she wanted so she fought for it.
Her childhood best friend supported her so she knew she could do it.
Years later, when she invites him to stay at her place…
Oh boy…
How I missed this genre.
I really did, and written by Lane Hart is was another masterpiece.
Fantastic plot, very well written, super engaging, and intense. It was just the thing I needed.
To witness the struggles everyone can have to make others proud it’s exhausting.
Why do people tend to fight what they really want in order to feel accepted?
Why can’t we just be ourselves and don’t give a damn about what others think?
It was perfect to have a glimpse of Jax, Paige, and Jude.
I missed those guys.
Each chapter was even more addictive than the other and I couldn’t stop reading or smiling.
It was the perfect story that I was eager to read.
Amazing book Lane Hart. Perfect and intense just the way I like it.
Can’t wait for the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Excerpt:

Xavier

“Just relax and close your eyes,” Cass repeats when she removes her hand from my knee.

“Okay,” I agree with a sigh, giving in and shutting my eyes tight.

“Now,” she starts. “Imagine you only have one month to live.” When I crack one eye open at her in question, she slaps her palm over my eyes and says, “You only have one month to live, Xavier Malone. You have a terminal case of chronic arrogantitis –”

“Chronic arrogantitis?” I repeat with a chuckle.

“Yes. It’s going to kill you very, very soon, so you have to spend your last days wisely because they’re all you’re going to get in this lifetime.”

“That sucks,” I mutter.

“It does,” Cass agrees. “This is the chance for you to make amends, to try and change any regrets, to do whatever the hell you want, when you want it.”

“Sounds good to me,” I agree.

“Damn right. You have an endless amount of money from the arrogantitis make a wish fund, so the sky is the limit.”

“Kind of fucked up to give me an endless amount of money when there are sick kids in the world,” I point out.

“Fine,” Cass says with a huff. “You have a Benjamin Button form of arrogantitis that makes you eighteen again! Jesus. This disease makes you very difficult, more so than usual.”

“Sorry,” I tell her with a grin.

“So, you’re eighteen with a month to live, what are you going to do? How do you see yourself spending your final days on earth so that you leave it with no regrets?”

Instantly, I see my younger self with nothing to lose standing in the middle of a six-foot high circular fence cage. My gloved fists are raised in the air as a sold-out crowd cheers and shouts my name after I knocked a man even bigger than me out with a single hit. Lights from cameras flash as my family comes into the cage to congratulate me, along with Cass, who I pick up and swing around in celebration before covering her lips for a kiss that’s so hot the television cameras have to go to a commercial break.

“Well, what do you see?” the imaginary Cass in my arms asks.

“You.”

“Me?” she exclaims and pulls away from my grip. That’s when the real Cass removes her hand from my eyes, and I open them to find her blinking at me in confusion from just inches away.

“You…you don’t want to know the crazy shit that goes on in my head,” I assure her and cover up my slip at the same time. “It’s all pretty ridiculous.”

“Oh, come on, you can tell me!” she says when she flops back to her side of the sofa and slaps me with the throw pillow again. “It doesn’t matter if it’s ridiculous. You’re running out of time, remember? Death is on your doorstep.”

“Right,” I say and finally admit the truth. “I won a fight.”

“A fight?” she asks with her brow furrowing in confusion. “Who were you fighting and why?”

“I don’t know who he was, but I beat him in front of a huge crowd.”

“Oh,” Cass says, her green eyes brightening in understanding. “You mean like a cage fight?”

“Yeah, like that,” I reply. “Stupid, right?”

Her face immediately falls like I just ran over her puppy. “You regret not taking the same path as your father and uncle.”

“What? No, I don’t regret it. My dad and Uncle Jude are fucking IFC legends. There would’ve been all these high expectations put on me, and I would’ve just embarrassed myself and my family when I sucked and lost every fight.”

The Boss (The Hitman Series Book 2) by Ellie Isaacson

A Bookworm Review by Ana

The Boss

Mafia Dark Romance

I give this book 4 stars!

Don’t deny what you truly want.

Have a look at the blurb:

Natalia
I hated him from the moment I first saw him.

Those bright blue eyes brought reminders of my biggest regret, my greatest loss, the thing that tortured me and had me struggling for control.

Each time I pushed him, he pushed back. Each time he touched me, something in me broke.
He would be the death of me, but I couldn’t stop.

Diesel
Her brothers brought me into their family. Gave me the one thing I needed more than anything else. Then they asked me to do something I wasn’t sure I could.

Take care of her.

She was trouble wrapped up in a gorgeous package, but I wanted to wrap her in my arms. Soothe her worries, calm her fears, show her what it felt like to let go.

The fire between us ignited. But as the walls burned down around me, I’d be forced to choose between the life I’d always known, and the love of my life.

#MyReview:

The thing that normally makes me happy is the chance to read the second book from a series that I love.
It is exciting to receive a new book, knowing that the first one was intense.
Oh boy.
So many things that I loved and a lot of questions that I was left with.
Ellie Isaacson knows the perfect way to write a mafia book. Her writing is raw and wild, sassy, and dangerous with a touch of hotness.
The Boss is her latest release and it’s the second book from The Hitman series.
But I advise you to read The Hitman first. Do it and you’ll understand this new book better.
This new book explores the lives of Diesel and Natalia.
Diesel lost everything until Jet gave him a family. He’ll do everything to protect his family but he can’t take Natalia out of his head.
When he’s given the task to protect her…
Natalia is one tough cookie. She’s feisty and doesn’t take shi*** from anyone.
She loves her family intensely and will do everything she can to protect them. But when her brother “orders” her to stay put with the protection of Diesel…
Dayum… Just Dayum… What a book.
Perfect plot, well written, super engaging, and intense.
The entire book was wrapped in a cloud of darkness and mystery.
Each chapter made it impossible for me to put the book down. One minute things were in a way and they took a turn to the worst.
Scene after scene made me hooked and I couldn’t stop reading.
There were parts of the story that I wanted to slap someone silly. Jeez. Stubborn like hell.
But then there were others that I wanted to hold them tight and never let go.
These two had their demons to chance away and sometimes that was impossible to achieve.
Grey worked perfectly together despite the pain the shared.
This book not only has some raw scenes but also some hot stuff as well. Oh boy… Hot hot hot.
Now I’m curious about the next book.
Great book Ellie. You nailed it and it was great to see my questions being answered.
Can’t wait for the next book.

Excerpt:

“Diesel?” My voice wavered between whisper and yell, and his head snapped up in surprise.
Blue the color of the bright spring sky sparked with life as those eyes took me in. The corners of his lips twitched into an almost-smile before he wiped it away with his fist. “Mornin’.” His voice was gruff, full of gravel and not enough sleep. The way it rasped out across his lips made my wobbly knees shake. “How’d ya sleep?”
My gaze dropped to the floor and I turned my face from his as I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “Umm, okay,” I said, telling him a partial lie. “And you?”
In answer, he rose from his chair, his long, lean body hovering over me. His eyes searched mine, darting back and forth as if by doing so he could find the truth. “Don’t believe you.”
“Excuse me?”
He gripped my chin between his thumb and finger, guiding my face to be aligned with his. “I. Don’t. Believe you.”
Scowling, I ripped my chin from his grasp. I spun on my heel and pulled open the fridge. “How would you know?”
The heat from his body followed me. Every hair on my head seemed to stand on end. With a hand on the door next to mine, he leaned in, his chest brushing my shoulder as he reached for the milk. “Heard you from my room,” he whispered against my ear, his lips brushing my lobe.
“Heard every scream and whimper. Took everything in me not to rush back to your side.”
“Why would you care?” I brushed him away, stepping far from his grasp. My gaze hit the
melting snow out the window as I stood at the kitchen sink.
Again, that heat followed me. Again, the hairs rose on my head. Like the days of old, Diesel’s hands came to rest on my hips. He pulled my ass into his body, and for one second a thrill raced through me at the thought that he would take me from behind.
Instead, he leaned down over my shoulder, those hands smoothing over my hips. “It’s my job to care.”
“You son of a—” My palm flew at his cheek and landed with a crack. His face flew to his right, that cheek blazing red. I pulled my palm to my open mouth and tried to stifle my gasp.
Those bright, bright eyes sparkled like gems as he turned them back my way. His nostrils
flared and he gave a single nod. Then, without warning, he scooped me up and set my ass on the counter with a thud. He pressed his way closer, those slim hips sliding between my legs,
those hard abs nudging against my core.
“Don’t need you to like me,” he whispered into the crook my neck as his nose trailed along my flesh. And God, a tingly sensation zinged down my skin, meeting up with his long, hard length where it prodded between my legs. I grasped him as he rocked into me, holding on to those strong shoulders, my legs tightening around him as my body lit up. “An’ I don’t need to like you. But we’re stuck together, so you best let it go. Got that, darlin’?”

The Hitman (The Hitman Series Book 1) by Ellie Isaacson

A Bookworm Review by Ana

The Hitman

Mafia Dark Romance

I give this book 4 stars!

Sometimes your true love is right in front of you.

Have a look at the blurb:

She was the daughter of my worst enemy.
I was the hitman hired to take her out.

When the contract hit my phone, I thought it was fate. The broken, frightened girl who got away. The one who lied about who she was and disappeared without a trace.

Now I had a second chance. There was no doubt I’d do everything to keep her safe, both from my family and the man who wanted her life.

As secrets were revealed, lives were put at risk. But life had taught me there was no running from death.

It might have been fate that brought us together, but it was her past that would tear us apart.

#MyReview:

So, here I was, about to start a new book with two things that I loved.
First, it was a Mafia book, yep, you know that’s my weakness, and second, it was from a new author.
That’s a bonus I think.
A book from a new author can have its risks because I might not like the way the author writes and I might not like the plot, but it’s a risk I must take.
If the blurb is any indication, I will love it. That I’m sure.
Ellie Isaacson is a new author to me and let’s just say that I’ll be stalking her.
Her writing is raw and dark, intense, and dangerous, all the things that I love in a book.
The Hitman is the first book from The Hitman series and explores the lives of Lia and Yanny.
Yanny is a hired Hitman that doesn’t fail his jobs.
Something in him awakes when he first sees Lia, but she just vanishes and the need to find her is super strong.
When he gets a call with his next job…
Lia life hasn’t been easy. She has suffered tremendously at the hands of the ones who were supposed to protect her.
Darkness, darkness surrounded this book from the beginning till the end.
It was a heavy reading that I couldn’t have missed.
Great plot, well written, but there was one thing that bothered me. The phrases in a foreign language weren’t translated, and I saw myself googling it to find out what they were saying.
For me, that was the only thing that bothered me.
Like I already said, this book is surrounded by darkness as well as mystery.
One minute things are in one way, and the next it disappears or changes.
We have some hot stuff as well but the danger lurked in every shadow.
Crime, punishment, betrayal, torture are very present in this book.
Now I can’t wait for the next one.
Great job Ellie Isaacson. It was perfect to read and I can’t wait for the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Excerpt:

“Yanny.” My name was a whisper. A plea from deep inside. Warm lips touched mine. Gentle. Tentative. A nip of teeth, the tip of her tongue. She whimpered as she rose, her body hugging me tight. Again as she sank, swallowing me whole. I kissed her back, tasting that mouth, that tongue. Swallowing the moans that shook loose, breathing my own pleasure back into her mouth.
Taking.
Giving.
A push and pull.
This was my heaven with a side of darkness. The taste of good with a touch of bad. I wanted, needed, this woman around me. Surrounding. Hugging, pulsing, wetting, kissing.
The light after death, chasing away the dark.
